LOGLINE

A grieving couple moves to a remote house by the Brazilian mangroves, but when the husband finds solace in a mysterious force of the forest, the wife must choose between saving him or setting him free.

Agnes and David, a young couple broken by grief, retreat to a remote house at the edge of a Brazilian mangrove, hoping to rebuild their lives. But the place is hostile and the nature is alive. David, already weakened by illness, begins to feel an unsettling pull toward the forest, embodied in the figure of a Woman with Mud on Her Feet, who seems to offer him the peace his body has denied him.

Agnes struggles to protect him and to create a sense of home in a place that resists her. Yet the deeper David surrenders to the mangrove, the more it reveals itself as a stage for their shared loss, reshaping their sorrow into something both intimate and terrifying.

As David finds a strange serenity in the mangrove’s embrace, Agnes must confront the true cost of love: to fight for him, or to accept that he belongs to a world she cannot follow.

SYNOPSIS

CHARACTERS

agnes2.jpg

AGNES

A young American woman, determined, practical. She is the point of view of the story, the one who tries to rationalize the inexplicable. Her struggle is for the preservation of love, but also for her own sanity

DAVID

The son of Brazilian immigrants, born and raised in the U.S. A stranger to the country and the culture of his ancestors, he sees in the return home a hope for healing — but his fever is already part of something greater.

THE WOMAN WITH MUD ON HER FEET

An ambiguous entity, suspended between healing and contamination. Its presence shifts between the maternal, lustful, and monstrous, leaving marks on David’s body and psyche.

STATEMENT

A love story haunted by the living earth.

Fever is an intimate cosmic horror that asks a fundamental question: what does it mean to love someone undergoing a radical transformation? The film does not rely only on an external threat but weaves it together with the inner fractures of grief. The danger is both outside and within, where terror and transcendence are inseparably bound.

Agnes and David, a young couple broken by loss, retreat to a remote house on the edge of a Brazilian mangrove. For Agnes, pragmatic and anchored in the tangible, the humid environment is slow decay. Each mushroom blooming on the wall is an omen. For David, consumed by a mysterious fever, the same force whispers a promise of release. His illness is not a curse but a threshold.

The heart of the film lies in this dissonance. The story unfolds in the tension between Agnes’s struggle to hold on and David’s longing to dissolve into something larger. The mangrove is not a backdrop but a psychic terrain, confronting them with their loss in forms both physical and spectral. For David, it becomes peace. For Agnes, it becomes the terror of being left behind.

In Fever, nature is neither savior nor monster. It is an agent of unsettling change. A story about the courage to let the one you love find peace, even if it means surrendering them to forces you cannot understand.

"Fever" is a slow-burner horror film, with elements of possession, gore, and the strong presence of the supernatural. The story is built on suspense until it delivers an unexpected and violent catharsis in the third act, similar to the French Cannes prized horror "RAW". The pacing avoids rushed action sequences and focuses on delivering the horror in its atmosphere, similar to the approach in "THE WITCH". And the story creates mythos and surreal creatures that keep the audience desiring more, such as accomplished in the indie horror hit, "IT FOLLOWS".
